How to Apply for the $1,660 Extra CPP Payment: Simple InstructionsUpdated 2 months ago

The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) enhancement aims to increase retirement, disability, and survivor's pensions for contributors. The extent of the increase depends on the amount and duration of your contributions to the enhanced CPP.

Key Highlights: Apply for the $1,660 Extra CPP Payment

  • Automatic Adjustment: If you're already receiving CPP benefits and have contributed to the enhanced CPP (post-2019), your monthly payments should automatically reflect the increase. There's no need for a separate application.
  • Applying for CPP Benefits: If you haven't yet applied for CPP benefits, you can do so online through your My Service Canada Account or by completing the paper application form (ISP-1000). Ensure you provide all necessary information to facilitate processing.
  • Enhanced Contributions: The enhancement increases the percentage of your average work earnings replaced by CPP from 25% to 33.33%. This means higher future benefits for those who contribute more and for longer periods.
  • Contribution Rates: Since 2019, CPP contribution rates have been gradually increasing. As of 2025, employees contribute 5.95% on earnings up to the year's maximum pensionable earnings, with employers matching this rate. Self-employed individuals contribute both portions, totaling 11.9%.
  • Additional Earnings Protection: Starting in 2024, a second additional CPP contribution was introduced to protect earnings above the original limit, up to a new, higher limit. This ensures that higher earnings are better protected, leading to increased future benefits.
